Testimonials
I’ve known Rico for nearly 25 years and one thing that always stands out about him is his leadership abilities. His charisma and work ethic combined with his leadership skills has allowed his foundation to flourish and continue to grow. He’s willing to make tough decisions and stand up for what he believes. If we had more non-profits like Rico’s Foundation we would live in a much better society

Rico Cabrera, Jr.
As Founder and Executive Director of Rico’s Get Better Foundation, Rico brings a lifetime of experience working with inner-city student-athletes. As a former inner-city student-athlete, who was born and raised in inner-city Los Angeles, Rico would later go on to attend three very distinguished academic institutions as a varsity student-athlete, Harvard-Westlake School, Worcester Academy, and Colgate University. It was during these years that Rico began to truly understand what it means to excel both in the classroom and on the court.
Upon earning a grant-in-aid scholarship to Colgate University in 1999, Rico quickly learned what his true calling was; to help inner-city student-athletes become the best students and athletes they could possibly be. Since his days as an undergraduate at Colgate, Rico has coached and mentored over 250 inner-city student-athletes.
Currently, Rico’s responsibilities include overseeing all facets of the Foundation’s daily operations, which include fundraising efforts, program development, and the daily management and implementation of the foundation’s annual strategic plan. Rico works very closely with the Foundation’s board of directors, staff, and volunteers to uphold the Foundation’s mission statement, which to help create the best opportunities for all Get Better inner-city student-athletes.
Rico earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Colgate University in 2002.
